Tournament Rules

* Champion's Tournament * Contestants * CT Judges *

1. No power playing. Anything ruled power playing by the judges will lead to immediate disqualification.

2. The word of the judges is final.

3. You may submit up to three characters for the tournament, at the start of each round you will be required to state which character you are using.

4. One 'fan character' may be submitted, as long as it is not the only character you enter into the first round of the tournament - you must enter at least one 'original' character. By fan character we mean a character that would fit in to a world not created by you, but copyrighted terms such as Hogwarts, Jedi, X-Men or other recognisable words aren't allowed to appear in the character sheets.

5. Characters that the judges feel are copies of characters designed by published authors shall be removed, if it was your only character, you will be required to submit another one quickly, or you will be disqualified.

6. Genres can, and will be crossed. Don’t be surprised if your Sci-fi character ends up in a round with a high fantasy character.

7. Each round will last one week, after the allotted time the role-play pages will be locked, if you have particular trouble getting online that week, notify us and we’ll see what we can do.

8. Have fun.

The winner receives the coloured Octopus, participants receive the green Octopus badge:

2006-01-12 [iippo]: Kyrinn is right, old characters from existing rps are acceptable, just as well as new ones.

2006-01-12 [iippo]: We won't directly tell the judging criteria to the contestants. Art competitions don't tell you how to draw well, we want existing talent. A good player will know how to make a good bio.

2006-01-12 [Duredhel]: good decision ^^

2006-01-12 [iippo]: We don't want to watch Mary Sues playing, that's why bios are judged. Also character creation is incredibly important for being a good player. If you don't have enough imagination to make an original character, how can you have enough imagination to play interestingly? We want FULLY excellent player as our champion, has to be good at all aspects of playing. So in the end rounds there will be some amazing role-playing going on.

2006-01-12 [Duredhel]: The RULES are there, the JUDGING CRITERIA is a different thing, as long as you follow all of the rules listed in this page, you'll be fine ^_^

2006-01-12 [Jeed]: the rules arent completely clear. you dont define anything particular under god modding or power playing. your idea of that could be or are different from mine, and probably everyone elses

2006-01-12 [Duredhel]: Not everything will be a fight, in fact some of the best RPing is seen outside of fight situations. Now if you want clarification on the rules, you can either message a judge or read roleplaying for dummies, as indicated up there.

2006-01-12 [NamelessMerc]: 0.0; Dur, take a deep breath. You're coming across just a little snide. Pithy, if you will.

2006-01-12 [iippo]: Roleplaying for dummies will define our views of godmoding or powerplaying. And we will worry about making the out of genre problems, all you need to do is keep in character.

2006-01-12 [iippo]: This will be free form roleplaying which includes but is not limited to fighting. I for one am dying to see the ending rounds with the best of the best playing out a romantic scene or a domestic scene or whatever we put them into.

2006-01-13 [Wes Foxx]: :P This is supposed to be for fun, ya know. Look at me, I'm not using a character I've labored over and honed in countless fights for months and years, I'm using two of my most dynamic personalities from my story series, not worrying whether or not I'm gonna be able to win.

2006-01-13 [iippo]: This is the page of the rules. Up there it says "word of the judges is final." That is there because we knew there would be people who would not understand the concept (=bad players) and would start these flaming wars. I repeat, anyone who has problem with how we run this contest: message me in private (yes, everyone can message me, because I want to keep flaming off the pages, because these pages are official) so I will explain in detail. So far I have seen two people [Jeed] and [M. P. Ness] complaining about having to make their characters have a personality. Message me and I can explain to you in detail why exactly this is not a fighting game.

2006-01-13 [iippo]: Determining the winner will not be any of your problem, because you are not judges. We will deal with that. It is possible, just as it is possible to tell who has most talent in drawing, who makes the best point in poetry and whose short story was most compelling. Of course it is also about opinion, but we have planned this through that it is the Right opinion that is used as the criteria -- hence we not telling you what it is because we're not going to influence the creative process that you players will go through. (these two comments were aimed at the flamers but all people should take note of them).

2006-01-13 [windowframe]: And the moral of the story is: If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. And also, possibly, that Silvie is a little trigger happy with the delete button. o.< I apologise to all the non-rude commenters that had comments deleted, but without the original comments, it looked like people were talking to themselves ^^;;

2006-01-13 [Delladreing]: ...o.O dude not to self, don't log off and leave Silvie on her own with annoying n00bs, comments just dissapear before I even get a chance to read them and laugh at them O.o

2006-01-13 [NamelessMerc]: Aye, she doesn't have a happy trigger finger, she just set it to auto.

2006-01-13 [iippo]: Any chatterish commenting relating to the tournament will be appreciated (=not deleted) in the page champion's tournament Leave the other pages for related questions.

2006-01-13 [Faulty Limerence]: Okay, is everyone going to be RP'ing at the same time? Or what?

2006-01-13 [iippo]: Hmm, yes, but not in the same scene. So there will be a smaller amount of people in one wiki.

2006-01-13 [Faulty Limerence]: Aiyah...I was hoping it would just be a two person at a time deal...this is going to get messy...I hate RP'ing and then getting dragged down by people who may or may not be as well spoken as me. (Truly not trying to sound arrogant...)

2006-01-13 [iippo]: That's what I'm telling you. You will not interact with all the players. They will have their own settig in a different wiki, you will have your own. Small groups, later pairs or solo-playing.
